Ingredients
For 10–12 medium tortillas
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¾ teaspoon baking powder
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil (or melted butter)
- ¾ cup warm water (add slowly as needed)
Instructions
1. Mix the dry ingredients
In a large bowl, whisk together:
- flour
- salt
- baking powder
This helps keep the tortillas light.
2. Add oil
Pour in the oil (or butter) and mix with your fingers until the mixture looks like soft crumbs.
3. Add warm water
Slowly pour in the warm water while mixing.
Stir until a soft dough forms.
If dough feels too dry → add 1 tablespoon water.
If too sticky → add a little flour.
4. Knead the dough
Place the dough on a clean surface. Knead for 2–3 minutes until smooth and elastic.
This step makes the tortillas soft and stretchy.
5. Rest the dough
Cover the dough with a towel and let it rest for 15–20 minutes.
Resting helps the dough relax so it rolls out easily.
6. Shape the tortillas
- Divide the dough into 10–12 equal balls.
- Lightly flour your counter.
- Roll each ball into a thin circle (about 6–7 inches).
Tip: the thinner you roll, the softer the tortilla!
